International Cultural Exchange Program for Classical Musicians with the Sarajevo Philharmonic, Bosnia.

The Bosnian-Herzegovinian Academy of Arts and Sciences is a proud sponsor of the International Cultural Exchange Program for Classical Musicians in association with the Sarajevo Philharmonic in Bosnia. This program will identify musicians to spend up to ten months performing with the Sarajevo Philharmonic and living in Bosnia.  Internationally known conductor, Diane Wittry, will select the musicians from the United States to participate in this program.

The Bosnian-Herzegovinian Academy of Arts and Sciences (BHAAAS) was founded to provide connections between Bosnian-Herzegovinian scientists, musicians, artists, and professionals in North American to build bridges of cooperation. The academy promotes the spirit of intellectual diversity and free exchange of ideas in the belief that knowledge is shareable wealth.

Five musicians will be selected to participate in the program. The instrumental openings for the 2012-2013 concert season are: 1 oboe, 1 bassoon, 2 French horns, and 1 trombone. These musicians will play for Opera, Ballet, and Symphonic Concerts. The musicians selected to participate in this program, will have all of their travel expenses and accomodation expenses in Bosnia and Herzegovina paid for. They will receive a small living stipend; shared housing in an apartment with the other Cultural Exchange musicians; a stipend for public transportation to and from rehearsals; basic health insurance; residency permit; and a round-trip airline ticket from a destination in the US to Sarajevo, Bosnia - Herzegovina.

The Sarajevo Philharmonic was founded in 1923 and has played an important role in shaping the musical life of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Sarajevo Philarmonic is a full-time orchestra that currently performs in National Theatre in Sarajevo and tours throughout the region.

The International Cultural Exchange Program for Classical Musicans will start around September 10, 2012 and finish at the end of June, 2013. Applicants must be available for the entire ten month time period to be considered.

INVITATION TO COMPETE

FOR

BHAAAS ANNUAL AWARD

The Bosnian-Herzegovinian American Academy of Arts and Science (BHAAAS, www.bhaaas.org/) is announcing its annual competition for best research or art projects in the areas of natural or social science, humanity, technology, and art.

The purpose of the projects should be to establish and maintain an authentic and insightful contribution to the well being of Bosnia Herzegovina and/or its diasporas in the United States and Canada. These projects can be either in progress or planned to finalize within a year.

The projects should be submitted in the form of electronic posters (Power Point, PDG, or JPG) to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by 5pm EDT, July 1, 2011. Project submission should include a separate document containing competitor’s bio and a clear statement on project’s benefit to Bosnia Herzegovina and/or its diasporas in the United States and Canada. The selected competitors will be invited to present their projects at the BHAAAS Annual Meeting in St. Louis, Missouri, September 16-18, 2011. The winning project will receive a plaque and $1,000 financial support. The second-place project will receive a plaque and $700 and the third-place award is a plaque and $300. All project presenters at the Annual Meeting will receive a certificate of participation.

Eligibility to participate: undergraduate students (regardless of the country of origin) enrolled in the US and Canadian colleges and universities.

Publications of the work supported in part by the BHAAAS must include a statement recognizing such support.

Fulbright Student Program
The Fulbright Student program is a 9 month non-degree program intended for independent library research and/or field research toward a Master’s or Ph.D. degree.  Students will establish professional contacts in their field, enhance their scholarly work and gain international experience and personal enrichment.
